I love night fishing! Especially during the heat of summer! Bass will be more active at night if water temperatures are too warm to feed during the day. Also lakes that are pressured by lots of fishermen during the day will produce more at night. Plus your not having to fight over a spot on the lake! You'll most likely be the only one out there. The best places to fish at night are ponds, because they are hotter during the day than lakes.
As for the moon phases full moon and new moon are awesome! Throw some top water lures like jitterbugs, buzzbaits, torpedos, or slow roll a spinnerbait with a colorado blade. Use dark colors, mostly black and maybe a little red. Key is to keep a steady retreive so that bass can lock in that target, they have to use all of there senses at night and a steady retrieve will only help better the chances of a bass not missing the lure. I've had alot of bass miss and it sucks! I think night fishing might actually be my favorite time to fish.
Be careful when taking the hook out because a bass might just hook you back. Bring a flashlight! You'll need it for taking hooks out, tangles, changing lures etc., but keep the light off while fishing because you'll catch less fish I find.

Top lures to use are Mini-pro Buzzbait, Cavitron Buzzbait, Boo-Yah Buzzbait with clacker (try them all because they all have different sounds and bass will hit more over another on some nights). Poppers, Jitterbugs, and Torpedos.
For the first time ever I'm also going to reveal a secret night fishing weapon that I'm not sure to many people know about. Use a floating wake bait at night especially in the shallows where sunfish can be found. This will get you HUGE bass. Here is the lure and color I use, bluegill 4" Tru-Life Tru-Tungsten Swimbait.

Here are some pictures of bass me and my cousin have caught with this lure at night.
