When I lived in Virgina Beach, VA I lived on a canal that went into a nice lake...I remember wrapping thread around a hook and painting/gluing it on with red nail polish...I caught my share of Bluegills and Pumkinseed on it, I guess I thought I was a world renowned lure maker. I was 8. Oh that magic number..8, Christmas and fishing is pretty much all I cared about. I had a nice little 8' aluminum boat and would row out to the lake super early, sometimes a stick would scrape along the bottom...I'd row back like I had a motor on it, hey it could have been a monster!
Strike King Bitsy Jig...Great jig for this time of year when water's on cold side. Try it with a variety of different retrieves. My best hooking method is when I feel a tap, lower rod tip for a "one-count" and then give a good solid set. Won't get'em all, but typically results in good hookup rate. These jigs are about 2 bucks at wal-mart, are weedless, and come in a bunch of colors. Give'em a try.
A spinnerbait that I caught my 1st bass on yesterday! I got a jig on my other main fishing pole that didn't do anything. I am still learning how to do the jig thing.
