I've been fishing all my life and the past couple of years I've been meaning to pick up a baitcaster. I did some research and I've got my sights on the Shimano Citica 200E. Or should I just go with the Curado, because it is much better with lighter lures?

It's not too advanced like the Curado, so it won't be as hard to learn on, but it's good quality, so i won't get discourage by a crappy reel.

Also looking for a decent rod for it.

Any suggestions or ideas?

yea thats what I wound up getting, and the versatility for different size baits is astounding, I use anything from 1/8 oz and up with no problem.

I have 2 Curados and 3 Quantum Accurist500(approx $90)and can't tell a bit of difference. So of course I favor the cheaper.Accurists also have a brake fine tune dial where you have to play with the mags on the Curado.I remember trying to learn on a real cheap Diawa and just about gave it up.Someone convinced me to get a Curado, and quality does make a difference. But I only but the Quantums now.Just my input

I agree with Joshua Reid on the PINNACLE. At WALMART you can pick up the SOLENE for $50. Check out the link and it gives you the specs.

. As far as a rod, Ya can't go wrong with a Shakespeare Ugly Stik. You can keep your set up under a $100 including a few lures.
Good Luck

T R ☆ Y, you'll have to excuse my previous reply. After I posted it I realized I was a little late...March 9th to July 3rd...if I waited a couple more months it could have been a Christmas present for ya.

T R ☆ Y (and all the members), Have a great and safe July 4th weekend,

Honestly when I started using baitcasters I didn't feel like using a reel that was gonna cost a fortune so I looked for something that was pretty cheap too. I went to basspro shops and found their extreme baitcasters for $60. I loved those baitcasters when I was getting started. I could throw anything from 1/8 oz jigs and up. So if I were you I would give the basspro shops extreme a good look.

i dont know what kind i just bought but it is the worst piece of junk that i could ever spend twenty bucks on. i went to k mart just to get a cheap one. all it is good for is dropping something straight down. it is impossible to cast with it. it was a waist of money that could have bought me a new rapala.

ok well if you dont want to spend too much then go with the Shimano Corolis CD100E and for a rod I would go with a Berkley Lightning rod. I have used this combination for years and they work fine for me
