Growing up on Long Island was pretty good...we had the Great South Bay where you could catch Flounder, Fluke, Weakfish, Blue Fish, Blow Fish, King Fish and more, a 2 mile span boat ride from the mainland to Fire Island we could surf cast the Atlantic, or drive out on the beach, on the North Side we had The Long Island Sound, and we had quite a few lakes as well as tidal waters (salt/brackish/fresh)
One of LI's best fishing lakes is
Lake Ronkonkoma. It's a 243 acre lake with the following fish. Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Black Crappie, Yellow Perch, White Perch, Carp. Brown Bullhead and they started stocking Walleye in 1994. Ice Fishing is popular there (it doesn't freeze over every winter though) There are
MYTHS about the lake that are kind of interesting...The Bottomless Theory, The Suicidal Princess and the poem about the Princess The Maiden in the Lake. Only trolling motors are allowed and there is a decent amount of good shore accesses...but it is better if you have a small boat to get out there. Just thought I'd share this if anyone ever makes it out, down or up this way. Well I hear a Princess calling my name and have to get going. Maybe I'll have a good
Fish Story when I get back. I'll be sure to let you know if it got away.
As Always, Good Luck...
Tony
